About me A retired personage with time to think. It'll soon be 50 years that I have been with my wife, neat eh?
I am an asylum seeker as my mother embarked with me and my brother on the last ship to leave Jersey for England in July 1940 only days before the Nazis occupied the island. We spent the next few weeks enduring the blitz in Southampton learning how to be frightened. Very proud of three children and their partners and three grand-children. Interests science, philosophy, theology and politics. The politics are much less idealogical than of yore. A bit serious eh? But I also enjoy a laugh. I have some hobby horses: a wish to get away from the materialist determism of scientism so I am interested in top-down causation and idealist philosophy; process theology which amongst other things considers God to be good but not omnipotent; more mundanely to encourage the UK highways agency to take a more enlightened approach to the design of road signs, methods of reducing hospital acquired infections (HAI); rebalancing the rights of pedestrians and motorists in towns in favour of pedestrians. We spent five years sailing in the Mediterranean after retiring. Now mainly involved in school governorships and our local Congregational Church. my email: james at wishart100 dot freeserve dot co dot uk |
